[October 1, 2004]
Intraop Medical, Inc. announced today that it has delivered and installed a Mobetron treatment system at Hospital San Jaime in Torrevieja, Spain. The Mobetron at San Jaime is the third Mobetron delivered to Europe and the first delivered and installed in Spain.
“Hospital San Jaime is an important installation for us”, said Donald Goer, President and CEO of Intraop Medical, Inc. “Not only does Hospital San Jaime add to the growing base of European Mobetron installations, but Dr. Ignacio Azinovic, the Director of Radiation Oncology at Hospital San Jaime, is also the co-Principal Investigator for the European intraoperative radiotherapy ("IORT") lung study. Now that the Mobetron is installed, he will be able to place patients in the study as well as direct and coordinate the study.”
Dr. Ignacio Azinovic, the Director of Radiation Oncology at Hospital San Jaime, is one of the world’s leading IORT practitioners. He is the author or co-author of numerous articles on IORT, including co-authoring definitive chapters on the use of IORT in the treatment of soft tissue sarcomas, recurrent colorectal cancer, and lung cancer in “Intraoperative Irradiation---Techniques and Results”. Dr. Azinovic will be the co-Principal investigator in Europe for a study on the use of IORT for lung cancer. The lung study protocol is based on a pilot study of about 100 patients treated with IORT at the University of Navarre in Pamplona, Spain where Dr. Azinovic and members of the San Jaime cancer treatment team practiced for many years.
