Protocol ISIORT-02: Pilot Study Evaluation of the Use of Multimodality Therapy for Retroperitoneal Sarcomas.

The primary treatment for soft tissue sarcomas that are located in the abdomen and/or pelvis is surgery. Despite surgical resection, however, recurrence and spread of these tumors is common in the abdomen and to other areas in the body. The major purpose of this Clinical Treatment Trial is to evaluate the response of soft tissue sarcomas in the abdomen and pelvis to preoperative chemotherapy and radiation therapy, followed by surgical resection and additional radiation boost treatment (delivered by IORT, external irradiation or implanted radioactive sources).
